Funny how? Joe Pesci Loves His Big Cigars

In Hollywood, some people are either characters or character actors. Joe Pesci is the embodiment of both. Joe Pesci has had the unique ability to infuse every role with his inimitable style, often stealing the scenes. He appeared in some of the greatest Hollywood blockbusters throughout the years. Smoking big cigars to relax and stay focused is his way of life. But it’s also part of the cigar lifestyle we know and love.

The Little Big Man Likes a Big Cigar

Joe Pesci embodies the rags-to-riches story that is part of Hollywood lore. He initially went to Hollywood in the early seventies with dreams of becoming an actor. Then, in a tirade that would be typical of some of the characters he has portrayed, he was thrown out of a casting office by the producer and director, who told him never to return.

The Little Big Man Gets a Big Break

That bold attitude led Martin Scorsese and Robert De Niro to notice him. Back then, Pesci was a singing waiter in a Bronx restaurant. De Niro approached him during a smoke break and later introduced the Little Big Man to Martin Scorsese. Scorsese then chose him as De Niro’s brother and manager in “Raging Bull.” It became Pesci’s breakthrough role and the first time we see him smoking big cigars on screen.

Chris Pratt is a Guardian of the Cigars Galaxy!

If there were a Hollywood blockbuster chronicling the rise of actors who began as waiters, Chris Pratt would have a starring role. But, instead, as a college dropout waiting tables in Hawaii, a director shooting a low-budget film discovered Pratt; This led to a featured position on “Everwood,” followed by “The O.C.” The rest, as they say, is cigars and Hollywood history.

Chris Pratt Makes the Leap to the Big Screen

His role as a lovable loser on Parks and Recreation showcased his comedic talents, and audiences lauded him for it. In addition, his range: the ability to play a SEAL Team member in Zero Dark Thirty, or a baseball player for the Oakland A’s, helped solidify him as leading man material. Once fellow cigar aficionado and Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn noticed, Chris Pratt entered the stratosphere.

Chris Pratt is a Super Hero

Getting himself into shape to play a Hollywood blockbuster superhero involved a vigorous exercise regimen and diet. As a former cigarette smoker, Pratt had to kick the habit, which caused weight fluctuations. However, while filming Guardians of the Galaxy in London with Gunn, Pratt discovered cigars, and a love affair blossomed. It started over small “breakfast” cigars by La Flor de Cano.

Do Astronauts Smoke Cigars in Outer Space?

An asteroid named Oumuamua that distinctly resembled a cigar captivated the scientific world. It even had a reddish glow on one end, which made it appear lit as it traveled through space. The design so baffled scientists and amateur astronomers that many believed it was an alien vehicle on cruise control. While Oumuamua is the first known voyager from another universe, it was not an alien vehicle. It also wasn’t a cigar, which begs the question, “Do astronauts smoke cigars in outer space?”

The Right Stuff

Outer space has enamored Hollywood since the days of silent films. Blockbusters like The Right Stuff and Apollo 13 gave tremendous insight into the astronauts’ tastes and exercise routines. In 1959, NASA prohibited the “Original Seven” astronauts from smoking cigars and cigarettes. While that ban may have applied to the astronauts, it never prevented the Mission Control team from lighting up celebratory cigars – especially in the case of the nearly doomed Apollo 13 mission!

Heroes Smoke Cigars

The astronauts from the space program’s early days remain legends today. The first American in outer space, Alan Shepard, loved cigars as did the first man to walk on the moon, Neil Armstrong. As the Cold War gathered steam, they adhered to a strict code; no Cuban cigars. However, when John Glenn completed the first Mercury orbital flight, he received his weight in Cuban cigars upon return.

The Space Race and Cigars

Just because astronauts can’t smoke cigars in space doesn’t mean they gave up cigars entirely. Many bring a trophy cigar to enjoy immediately upon splashdown. Cigar makers got into the space race as well. Alec Bradley was the first cigar maker to “officially” launch cigars into outer space. They attached 30 Alec Bradley Mundial cigars to a specially rigged weather balloon launched with the FAA’s blessing. They reached the stratosphere before plummeting to earth via parachute and immediately smoked in celebration!

Celebrating Dads in Outer Space

Randolph Bresnik became a father while stationed on the International Space Station. Videos surfaced of him “floating” cigars to his fellow astronauts while experiencing zero gravity.

The payloads for astronauts are scheduled down to the ounce to account for maximum capacity on long voyages. Still, Bresnik was given special clearance by NASA to celebrate the achievement. None of them lit up, as astronaut Wally Schirra once pointed out. The effects of the smoke and the trace chemicals in cigars are potentially corrosive. Aside from that, the enhanced oxygen atmosphere presents a significant fire risk and is incredibly dangerous!

To Smoke Cigars on Mars and Beyond

There has been discussion for decades about colonizing the moon and Mars. If cigar-loving astronauts have any say in the matter, one of the first buildings will be an exclusive cigar lounge! There are evident complications with smoking cigars in space due to the need for pure oxygen. Yet, there is one thing the Apollo 13 astronauts have taught us – difficult situations demand creative solutions!

Relations with Cuba are better than in the decades since the first astronauts went to outer space. So, it’s probably safe to assume that Cuban cocktails and cigars will eventually find their way to outer space!

Cigar Fan Tom Cruise is in Cruise Control

It’s been almost 35 years since Top Gun was released. Its release catapulted cigar fan and actor Tom Cruise to the upper echelons of legendary Hollywood film stars. Cruise’s latest work, Top Gun: Maverick, is set for release in early 2021. It promises to take the story about naval combat aviators to a new level. That vapor trail behind the Super Hornet flown by the actor might be smoke from one of his favorite cigars.

Work Hard, Play Hard

When certain actors achieve the level of “legend” in Hollywood, they are contented to rest on their laurels and handoff as much of the work they can to stunt doubles and underlings. Not Tom Cruise. At 58 years old, this action hero shows no signs of slowing down. Much to the chagrin of studio agencies, he insists on doing most of his stunts. As a result, he has cheated death several times in the Mission Impossible franchise.

Cigars are not Props for Cigar Fan Tom Cruise

Art imitates life for Tom Cruise. Several films featured him smoking cigars. In Rain Man and Risky Business, he is frequently seen smoking cigarettes but loathes them in real life. When he filmed Jerry McGuire, he was so infatuated with smoking cigars that he demanded scenes at the famed cigar lounge, Grand Havana Room in L.A., to accommodate his smoking enjoyment.

Sharing is Caring for Cigar Fans

While filming Eyes Wide Shut and throughout his marriage to Nicole Kidman, Tom Cruise was notorious in Hollywood for his generosity regarding cigars. He kept an ample supply of cigars on the set, which he shared with co-stars and staff. He also sent gifts to other actors and actresses he wanted to work with as a kind gesture. For example, for Demi Moore’s birthday, he and Nicole Kidman gifted her a beautiful travel humidor filled with an array of trophy Cubans, knowing her (and her husband Bruce Willis’) love of cigars and their life on the road.

Cigar Fan Tom Cruise is Taking a Breather

Since converting to Scientology, Tom Cruise has not smoked cigars in public. Although, the rumor is it is one vice he is unwilling to overlook. Cruise and Scientology leader and fellow cigar fan David Miscavige have long enjoyed treasured aged Cubans together.

Miscavige has one of the most enviable humidors in Hollywood. Tom Cruise has a personal humidor stocked with some of Cuba’s best, including; Montecristo Number 2, Partagas Series D, and Cohiba Behike. If he has slowed down from his once-a-day cigar routine, it is due to his intense focus on work, which entails a strict diet and workout routine.

The Champ Remains Humble

As a multi-time Oscar-nominated actor and one of the biggest box office draws for decades, it would be easy for all of his success to make him unapproachable. But instead, Tom Cruise is constantly praised by his co-stars for his work ethic and drive on the set and his generosity towards his fellow actors.

Perhaps the occasional cigar is available to help keep this Top Gun grounded and focused. The rare victory cigar for completing another death-defying stunt continues to keep his theater audiences on the edge of their seats!

Kevin Hart Loves Big Smokes!

Kevin Hart has been entertaining us since 2001, but burst on the scene in 2008 with his “I’m a Grown Little Man” stand-up comedy special. From that point on, Hart has become a household name. Today, Hart, a stand-up comedian, actor, and producer, ranks among Hollywood’s highest-grossing entertainers. This new member of Hollywood royalty counts on big smokes as one of his favorite indulgences.

Kevin Hart Hustles Daily

Cigars were not some affectation he acquired when he achieved box office gold. Hart started smoking cigars while on the road building out his stand-up career. He often saw other comedians like Ron White and Steve Harvey smoking on stage or after their sets. Steve Harvey has become a tremendous role model for Hart because of his tireless work ethic. He also passed off his joy of smoking cigars to Hart, who was hooked!

Little Man, Big Smokes

Unlike many celebrities, Hart isn’t shy about his smoking habits. He was photographed on New Year’s Eve smoking with famed singer and actor Ludacris. On his recent honeymoon with his new bride, Eniko Parrish, in St. Bart’s, the paparazzi’s eyes were on his new bride. But they also captured Hart smoking in every photo, every day of the honeymoon. In a recent luxury fashion shoot on a sailboat in Malibu, he flashed one of his other big passions — expensive watches. He sported a rare Audemars Piguet watch that cost over $100k while waving a massive trophy Cuban.

All in the Family Smoking

The 2014 movie “Ride Along” featured Ice Cube, another notorious cigar smoker. Ice Cube’s cigar of choice is a Punch Magnum Double Maduro looked large in his hands. But these big smokes looked massive when given to Hart. Ice Cube teased his co-star about not being allowed to smoke anything more significant than himself. They frequently smoked throughout the movie, both on and off the set. While they shared cigars with folks on the set, many couldn’t handle the robust, full-bodied smokes they enjoyed!

Hart is Serious About his Big Smokes

As one of the most sought-after stand-up comedians on stage and on the big screen, he has made a career by being the funny guy. However, Hart takes his big smokes seriously. He smokes frequently and does not stop lighting big-ringed, full-bodied cigars. In the pictures from New Year’s with Ludacris, Hart is smoking a Cohiba Behike. He is also unafraid to flash prized Cuban trophies like a Partagas Series E Number 2. The bigger, the better!

The Champ Remains Humble

As one of the top-grossing movie stars, it would be easy for his success to go to his head. But instead, Hart stays grounded through the love of his growing family and focuses on upcoming projects. Smoking a cigar while enjoying a cocktail allows him to gather his thoughts as he thinks about the future while also reflecting upon the journey that got him there. A good smoke keeps him grounded and focused.

Although the cigars, watches, and clothes may seem flashy, Kevin Hart remains humble and hard-working. He knows how fleeting success can be and never take anything for granted.

Terry Bradshaw Legit Loves His Prized Cigars!

Terry Bradshaw has been the face of the NFL for almost forty years; first, as a Super Bowl-winning quarterback, then as a commentator and welcome studio sidekick. When he’s not in the studio, you can find him hard at work doing commercials or movies, playing the role of the lovable oaf, and laughing to the bank. Along the way, he frequently pauses to enjoy prized cigars.

Super Bowl-Winning Quarterback

Some players would have bristled at being labeled “too stupid” to call their plays. Bradshaw, however, has turned it into his brand. It all stemmed from his crazy scheme to intentionally tank a college entrance exam required by the University of Louisiana. He wanted to play for Louisiana Tech instead, hoping to thrive in a more minor, less competitive program. The rest, as they say, is history. Terry went on to win four Super Bowl Championships with the Pittsburgh Steelers in the 1970s.

Terry Bradshaw Takes Command

Bradshaw’s heroics on the field were legendary. His command of his teammates and the respect he earned made for a smooth transition to the commentator booth. Even his down-home demeanor, vast knowledge of statistics, and tireless work ethic contributed to his off-field success. And his love of the game resonated with fans and players alike. Bonding with players or fellow analysts after the game often involves a cigar.

All in the Family Smoking Prized Cigars

Terry Bradshaw’s father and grandfather always enjoyed cigars. In fact, ‘devoured’ might be a better description. They were both “chewers,” an old farm habit of chewing rather than smoking the King Edwards cigars they enjoyed.

Terry occasionally falls into the old family habit of chewing. Still, his taste in cigars has changed since “Mr. Rooney” gave him his first trophy cigar. Mr. Rooney owned the Pittsburgh Steelers and had a prized humidor full of Cubans and other trophy cigars in his office. A cigar from the team’s owner was the best reward you could get after a Super Bowl ring!

Flashy Clothes and Mild Prized Cigars

Like his taste in clothing for his on-air appearances, his taste in prized cigars tends to run towards the higher end. While his clothing may be flashy, his cigars are typically mild and as smooth as he can get them. He is partial towards Griffins and Connecticut shade-wrapped cigars made by Davidoff. Following Mr. Rooney’s example, he is extremely generous with his cigars. He typically buys three boxes monthly during football season. He gives away two of them to friends and staff at his favorite lounges.

The Champ Remains Humble

Despite the heights he has reached on and off-field, he remains incredibly humble. He has been candid, lamenting his lack of family time due to the rigors of the grueling road schedule once football season gets into full swing. Yet, while he is listed among some of football’s greatest players, he doesn’t linger on the past and his endless victory cigars and celebrations with Franco Harris and Lynn Swann.

These days he is more content to share cigars with the guys who prep him for his studio appearances. Instead, he’s happiest with his family on his country ranch in Roanoke, Virginia, raising prized quarter horses and trying to properly enjoy his prized cigars without chewing them!
