Ludacris is Killing the Cigar Game

If you’re unfamiliar with the music of Chris Bridges, better known as Ludacris, then you should definitely be paying attention to him for his cigar-loving lifestyle. He has been an avid cigar fan for years. In fact, as a celebrity smoker, he’s killing the cigar game. He often shows off with a stick in his mouth alongside fellow rappers, celebrities, and other friends.

When he’s not making music or starring in movies like the Fast and Furious franchise, Ludacris touts his love of cigars. He’s very outspoken and advertises his love of Cubans all over his Twitter page. You’ll see him posing in photos with a smoke alongside other fellow rappers. Some include Usher and Ne-Yo and comedic actor Kevin Hart, to name a few.

A Southern Transplant and Self-Published Success

Christopher Brian Bridges didn’t start out as a multi-platinum selling icon known for his less than serious lyrical content. Born in Illinois, Bridges moved to Atlanta at age nine where he began to rap shortly thereafter.

By the time he was a teenager, Bridges would be working as a DJ until self-publishing his debut album Incognegro, which he published under the pseudonym, Ludacris. This led gained him a moderate amount of success despite not having an actual label and it solidified his new name.

Ludacris’ music positioned him to sign with the label Def Jam South. From here, he made his first major-label record debut with the album Back, For the Very First Time. Then, he experimented with wordplay and less serious rap content. The album became a major success and catapulted him into stardom.

Word of Mouf and Movie Stardom

Not one who slacks, Ludacris later released three albums over three years. Two of these albums made multi-platinum status. When his third album Word of Mouf went multi-platinum, Ludacris Hollywood noticed him and he received offers for movie roles.

During his Hollywood career, Ludacris has played many large and small parts. This included a recurring role in the blockbuster series Fast and Furious which he began in 2002. His roles led him to greater success – he had already won a grammy. Since then, he has won many other awards for acting.

His film roles have not let him shy away from his music, however. He still actively records music between filming movies. Despite his schedule not leaving him much free time, he still plays the cigar game well. Yet, you can catch him enjoying a cigar during red carpet events and after-parties for premieres. Unlike many celebrities who smoke cigars during their leisure time, Ludacris is a proud cigar smoker. In fact, he’ll often pose for a photo while smoking one, even if others in that same photo don’t smoke.

Entrepreneur and Cigar Game Lover

Since attaining success in music and film, Ludacris has also branched out into the business and cigar worlds. In fact, he’ll promote any favorite smokes he finds. Among his favorites, he loves collecting and aging any premium Cubans he can find. Some of these include Monte Cristo #2.

Ludacris isn’t like some smokers who light up whatever they’ve got. He prefers storing his cigars awhile and letting them age. Then, he’ll bring them out when he feels it’s time to party or enjoy a good smoke.

It’s rumored, that he has a personalized humidor custom-built for his favorites. It’s also sized to hold the number of smokes he likes to keep on hand. His custom-built humidor is actually more well-known than what he prefers to keep inside it. That speaks volumes about the value Ludacris places on his cigars.

Ludacris’ love of the cigar game doesn’t stop with Cubans and a custom humidor though. He also co-owns Conjure Cognac, a drink he is fond of pairing with a cigar. Whether this venture came to light because of his love for cigars or he happened upon a combination that works isn’t known. One thing is certain, though. The right pairing of a cigar and a drink is a great thing indeed.

Ludacris’ Future and Smokin’ Cigar Game

Ludacris is likely more known today for his movie roles than for his nonsensical rapper role. That doesn’t mean he’s stepped away from the studio yet, though. If you’ve learned anything about him so far, then you’ve discovered he likes to stay busy.

When he’s not rapping, making blockbuster films, or closing business deals, Ludacris does charity work. He did a charity drive in 2011 that helped restock the libraries in New Orleans. This was after Hurricane Katrina devastated their book supplies. He also founded The Ludacris Foundation to help promote healthy living, leadership, and mentorship for young people.

Even that isn’t enough. He also promotes a line of headphones. He has a chicken restaurant in Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport in Atlanta. He manages his own record label. He endorses a line of shoes, and he has various real estate holdings throughout the country.

Whether it’s his music, movies, business deals, or other media, the idea that you won’t be seeing more of Chris Bridges is simply, ludicrous. Considering his love of a good stick, it’s also safe to assume he’ll continue killing the cigar game as well.

Matthew McConaughey Thinks Cigars Are Alright

Everyone’s favorite gentleman from Texas, Matthew McConaughey, is no stranger to the big screen. Regardless of what type of roles he’s playing, McConaughey continues to be one of the biggest stars in Hollywood. Yet, there is something about McConaughey that you may not know. When he isn’t starring in films or endorsing luxury cars, McConaughey likes chewing on a cigar while chewing the fat with friends after a hard day’s work.

McConaughey likes mild-flavored cigars because he feels he can enjoy more of them. He collects cigars that he lets age in his humidor before touching them. Why? According to McConaughey, this was how he learned to “respect the lineage of the cigar.”

McConaughey’s not alone in the cigar-smoking club of high-caliber celebrities. He ranks alongside the likes of Arnold Schwarzenegger and Samuel L. Jackson. However, he is unique in his tastes.

McConaughey started smoking cigars as a teenager. He often bought whatever he could afford. That generally included Swishers — those machine-pressed cigars you can find at almost any gas station, convenience store, or truck stop. Although he graduated to better cigars today, McConaughey still prefers a sweetness to his cigars. It reminds him of his youth.

McConaughey has also gone on record with his opinion about Cohibas. While they are good, they are too strong for him unless he pairs them with a nice glass of port.

Early Days and Law Inspirations

Perhaps it would end up being blind luck or fate, but Matthew McConaughey grew up relatively poor in Uvalde, Texas. So, he was unknown throughout his early life. Nevertheless, McConaughey attended the University of Texas in Austin and earned a degree in radio, television, and film. That degree served him more than he imagined after his plans to attend Southern Methodist University changed.

Ironically enough, when McConaughey graduated college, he initially aspired to become a lawyer. Yet, he ultimately decided a law degree wasn’t right for him. Changing course worked out for the better, though. His most iconic role and perhaps his reason for attaining star status came playing a lawyer in the 1996 film A Time to Kill.

Matthew McConaughey: Becoming a Brother-of-the-Leaf

Matthew McConaughey didn’t always appreciate finer cigars as he does today. It didn’t happen until the producer of one of his many films brought him a premium cigar and told him “not to smoke it for ten years”. Although this might have seemed strange advice, it transformed McConaughey’s perspective. That’s when he began to appreciate the fineness of cigars and what it meant to own a premium smoke.

He now collects cigars — many of them he receives from others. However, McConaughey doesn’t smoke them until they’ve adequately aged or it’s the right time.

McConaughey didn’t start smoking genuine cigars until well after he became an established actor. He began acting in 1993 in the film Dazed and Confused. Yet, it took a few years before he landed his breakout role as a defense attorney in the movie, A Time to Kill.

Unlike his cigars, which he prefers light and sweet, McConaughey likes his roles more hard-edged. He gained widespread fame in light-hearted romantic comedies. However, Matthew McConaughey prefers grittier roles with a bit of a tooth, like his role in The Lincoln Lawyer.

A Challenging Quarry

One of McConaughey’s favorite pastimes is conversing while enjoying a good cigar. Nights drinking beer and smoking also rank high on his list; This extends to interviews and discussing complex subjects. McConaughey enjoys challenging people’s ideas and opinions.

Much like the lawyer characters he’s fond of playing, Matthew McConaughey often finds himself debating things with people. He even debates with those asking him the questions. As a result, his interviewers report him as a difficult nut to crack. Yet, he always remains a gentleman throughout the debates.

Debates aren’t the only things Matthew McConaughey likes. He also loves a good joke. As a result, McConaughey often stars in films with a comedic twist to them. However, he wants to keep things balanced. Although romantic comedies aren’t his favorites, he understands their part in making him the star he is. So, he does his best to make each one meaningful.

Outside of filming, McConaughey does his share of philanthropic work in and around Texas. A rumor spread suggesting he might seek the governorship of Texas. However, that rumor has since been proven false.

Cigar Lover and Baseball Heavy Hitter: Alex Rodriguez

Alex Rodriguez was consistently one of the best shortstops and third basemen throughout his 22-year baseball career. Today, though, A-Rod is known as more of a businessman than an athlete. He has been one of the most controversial figures in baseball. Part of that was from his involvement in a performance-enhancing drug scandal. Yet, some of it was due to him having some of the highest-recorded salary numbers in baseball history. When he’s not striking deals or appearing as a regular on any number of T.V. shows nowadays, A-Rod enjoys cigars. According to him, he became a cigar lover who enjoys a good smoke after playing a round of golf with Michael Jordan.

A Kid From Miami Hits the Big Time

He intended to attend college and play football as a quarterback. Yet, by the time he was 17, young Rodriguez was already being shopped around by some top teams in the business. Then, a last-minute offer by the Seattle Mariners made him change his mind about attending the University of Miami to play football. So instead, Rodriguez headed off to Washington.

As the number one overall pick in the 1993 draft, the Mariners and critics had high hopes for Rodriguez. Instead, he would spend his first two years outperforming most of his peers in the minor leagues. Then he would take over as the Mariner’s full-time shortstop in ’96.

In Rodriguez’s first year out, he set or tied multiple records, including becoming the youngest shortstop to play in an All-Star game.

It would be the start of his rise as one of the youngest stars in the game.

A Cigar Lover is Born

By the 2000 season, Rodriguez was Seattle’s face of the franchise. He later led them to the American League Championship Series, where they ultimately lost to the New York Yankees. Yet, by this point, Rodriguez’s stock was already rising.

During this time, he recalled falling in love with cigars thanks to a Hoyo de Monterrey Double Carona given to him by Michael Jordan. Rodriguez even remarked about the trouble finding more of them later.

From then, Rodriguez enjoyed a smoke any time he could. The newly found cigar lover would even smoke while lounging by the pool when everyone else was asleep.

He spent the next few seasons with the Texas Rangers. He signed one of the most lucrative contracts in baseball history at $252 million. This contract led Rodriguez to a dose of significant criticism. Critics considered the amount of money spent on him too much when other team areas, namely pitching, were suffering.

Rodriguez spent only three years with the Rangers. Then, he was optioned off to the Yankees in 2004 in a last-minute trade arrangement.

Becoming a Yankee with Controversy

A-Rod would spend the bulk of his career with the Yankees. He also switched from playing shortstop to playing third base. This change was primarily due to baseball great Derek Jeter already holding that position.

During his first season as a Yankee, Rodriguez was already drawing attention. During the 2004 American League Championship Series, he purposely swatted away the glove of an opposing player; This resulted in an interference call and a nullified run from Derek Jeter. Unfortunately, it also led the team to lose and get knocked out of the series.

His next round of controversy came in 2007. He opted out of renewing his contract with the Yankees on the advice of his manager. That was after he had already stated he would stay with the team for the rest of his career.

Though, Rodriguez went on to win the World Series in 2009 with the Yankees. But that was before being caught up in yet another scandal. This time, it was with performance-enhancing drugs, and Rodriguez tested positive for use. After his subsequent suspension and return, Rodriguez’s career looked much different than in prior years. So, he retired in 2016.

Modern Entrepreneur and Cigar Lover

Outside of baseball, Rodriguez has become an outspoken businessman and baseball analyst known for his direct but down-to-earth style.

He is the owner and founder of A-Rod Corp. This holding company now owns dozens of products and Rodriguez’s investments in endeavors. One of these personal endeavors included Rodriguez’s attempt to buy the New York Mets in 2019.

You’ll find Rodriguez behind the commentator’s desk for networks like Fox Sports and ESPN when he’s not running multiple businesses or doing charity work. He often lights up a cigar in the commentator’s booth before or after a game to relax.

Besides his career as a sports analyst, Rodriguez also appears on shows like Shark Tank and Good Morning America as a special contributor.

When he’s not busy, Rodriguez enjoys playing golf and smoking great cigars, a trait he shares with his fiance and business partner, Jennifer Lopez. So whether you think he’s one of the greatest to play the game or overpaid and overrated, you’ll likely see more of A-Rod in the future.

Charles Barkley: NBA Legend Who Loves Cigars

You probably know Charles Barkley best for his days on the court with one of several teams. Or, perhaps you’re more familiar with him behind a desk commentating on basketball games. Yet, you might not know that he’s as big a fan of cigars as basketball. That’s right. The former 76er and often infamously outspoken Sir Charles is a lover of fine cigars. But, of course, he’s in good company, too, with fellow NBA stars like Michael Jordan and Lebron James.

Charles Barkley: The Early Years

Before charging across the court like a man half his size, Barkley was just a kid from Leeds, Alabama. After a tumultuous childhood, Barkley would pay to play basketball at the local recreation center. But unfortunately, he was too small and uncoordinated to make his high school’s varsity team.

As luck had it, the summer after his junior year, Barkley grew six inches, stood 6’ 4”, and weighed over 200 lbs. The high school basketball coach immediately granted him a spot on the team. From there, he went on to attend Auburn University in Alabama.

At Auburn University, he developed his skills and led the SEC in rebounds each year while earning nicknames. Some called him The Round Mound of Rebound or The Crisco Kid for his issues with his weight. Since then, he has become one of the most athletic big men in the NBA, but Barkley didn’t stop there.

The Philadelphia 76ers later drafted him as the fifth pick in the 1984 draft. Here is where Barkley gained widespread notoriety and fame.

Barkley’s Brash and Outspoken Personality

Today, Charles Barkley is known for his lighthearted jabs and off-the-cuff remarks. That’s especially true for fellow NBA star Shaquille O’Neal. When Barkley began his career, however, the story was different. Back then, he became known for a particularly aggressive play style that often resulted in contact with opposing players; This included several on-court brawls, one of which landed him a record-setting fine in 1990.

Barkley’s most significant incident involved a fan hurling insults and racial slurs at him. When Barkley caught wind of the offenses, he spat at the fan and inadvertently hit a little girl. He received a fine and suspension for his action. Barkley later made amends with the girl and her family. He also credited the incident for teaching him to play the game correctly and with more respect.

Despite all his negative publicity, Barkley played for the United States twice in the 1992 and 1996 Olympics. He received gold medals both times. Barkley is also a two-time Hall of Fame inductee. One of his inductions was for recognition as an individual player. The other induction was from when he played on the “Dream Team” during his time in the Olympics.

Charles Barkley and the Cigar Lifestyle

Throughout his basketball career, Barkley won many awards. He also played successfully for two other teams: the Phoenix Suns and the Houston Rockets. His retirement in 2000 slowed the multi-time All-Star down. Although, he continues philanthropic work and has become a role model to kids across the country.

In his downtime, Barkley likes two things, in particular: golf and cigars. He often smokes three to four cigars a day. When he “decides to light up,” you’ll find him puffing away on a Cuban Churchill while teeing up for a swing.

Barkley claims he began smoking after watching his former rival and friend, Michael Jordan puffing away every time they met. From there, Barkley tried his first cigar and liked it. After that, Jordan became his cigar teacher and had him smoking lower-tier cigars until Barkley moved up to the Cubans he favors today.

If asked about it, Barkley says that he learned two from Jordan. First, the process of smoking a cigar is to learn to enjoy the smoke itself. Second, “always have two humidors,” one for smokers who know what they’re doing and one for those who don’t. This philosophy taught Barkley to enjoy his cigar lifestyle as a way to relax and unwind rather than smoke for the sake of smoking.

Barkley reportedly possesses four humidors and is a collector and smoker. He favors Cuban cigars like the Churchills he often smokes. Yet, he also likes hand-crafted Padron Cigars. Barkley is fond of the idea of treating cigars well. He always stores his premium cigars properly and enjoys each one.

Barkley is Still Making Waves

Since his retirement, Barkley has done a good deal of civic work. He mentors kids and speaks on behalf of the National Basketball Players Association. Yet, he also does endorsements for products and other promotions.

Today, you’ll still find Barkley as a color commentator for the TNT network’s coverage of basketball games. He also continues to enjoy making light of his former teammates and fellow players regularly. So undoubtedly, everyone will see plenty more of this former kid from Leeds, Alabama.

Bourbon and Cigars: The Perfect Combination

A good pairing of bourbon and cigars pairing is the right way to end a long and stressful day. That much, we all know. Whether you’re relaxing on the deck or watching a game, a good smoke paired with a nice, single malt or rum cocktail is always a winner. Although scotch and rum are great choices, don’t overlook a good American bourbon.

Scotch and bourbon are both excellent forms of whiskey. The former is Scottish and the latter is American. Yet, there are distinct differences in the distillation process, materials used, and the overall flavor. That makes choosing one over the other important choice for any cigar aficionado. Pair an Ashton ESG with a swig of Gentleman Jack for a full-bodied flavor with a hint of warmth and spice, for example.

Much like with the rise of infused cigars, the right flavor combination is essential when pairing a drink with a smoke. The reason certain drinks and cigars work well is that the flavors complement each other. Understanding which drinks and cigars pair best is key to a rich, cigar-smoking session you’ll never forget.

Why Bourbon Works

There’s a distinct reason why certain spirits work with cigars and why others don’t. Generally, the rule is, the more full-bodied the cigar flavor, the more full-bodied the drink you should pair with it. This is precisely why spirits like vodka and gin are poor pairings for cigars. The taste of even a medium cigar completely overpowers the taste of most clear spirits like vodka.

Even flavored varieties of some alcohol don’t pair well with most cigars because the alcohol lacks smoothness or leaves an undesirable burn or aftertaste. This is why rum often pairs well with true Cuban cigars. The flavors match each other.

Similar to the variety and age of tobacco in finer cigars, the aging process and ingredients of bourbon produce unique flavors that complement cigar smoking. For instance, pairing a Padron 1964 with a swig of Knob Creek goes down smoothly. Yet, the subtle sweetness and earthy spices of the Padron 1964 also perfectly complement the woody flavors in Knob Creek bourbon. Vanilla vodka and peach schnapps just can’t provide the same combination.

Finding the Right Bourbon and Cigars Pairing

Pairing your favorite cigar with the right bourbon is as much about your own personal taste as it is the experience. To know what goes well together you need to fully understand the flavors in the bourbon and the cigar.

To think of it as food, you wouldn’t put fish sauce on a T-bone. In the same way, you wouldn’t mix a smooth and easy-burning Cohiba with a shot of Jim Beam. For cigars, it’s mostly about the flavors the tobacco and wrapper bring into the mix. For bourbon, there’s the entire distillation process.

Bourbon is made from many more ingredients than a cigar, namely corn, barley, rye, and for milder varieties, wheat. This gives every bourbon coming off the line a distinct flavor profile with different hints of this or that to consider.

It’s much the same as Cuban tobacco differs from Nicaraguan or Dominican tobacco. Each brand of bourbon changes the ratio of ingredients, additives, distillation time, and other factors. The final result produces a unique blend and taste for you to enjoy.

Ideas for Pairing Bourbon and Cigars

You’ll find that the most exquisite cigars have an equally complex flavor profile. One example is a medium-bodied Nicaraguan San Cristobal Revelation, which has a woody flavor like cedar or oak. In this case, the ideal pairing will have complimentary notes of sweetness. The slight hints of vanilla and caramel found in a bottle of Blanton’s Single Barrel Bourbon are a great accompaniment to a San Cristobal. For a slightly different taste, Eagle Rare Kentucky Straight Bourbon with its hints of toffee and honey balances earthy or woody flavors.

Full-bodied cigars that offer a blend of spice, leather, and wood, and a hint of sweetness from the wrapper, are more at home with a sweeter finishing bourbon. A full-bodied Honduran specialty like a Rocky Patel compares well with a glass of Wild Turkey or Jim Beam. The flavors of vanilla, toffee, and caramel complement the cayenne kick and mahogany finish of a Rocky Patel.

Conclusion

Sometimes finding the right pairing takes a bit of trial and error. It’s much like learning to savor a good cigar. Finding the right bourbon and cigars pairing is a process. For a good reason, Demi Moore is one of Hollywood’s prolific leading ladies. She’s been active for 40 years and has constantly been working throughout her entire career. Demi Moore has done it all: cameos in television series, leading roles in blockbuster films, or lending her iconic voice to animated characters. While doing it all, this leading cigar lady has also been smoking sticks alongside peers such as Kurt Russell and Tom Cruise.

The Early Years

Demi Moore is one of those rare, natural talents with something extra that makes people want to watch everything she does. She was born in Roswell, New Mexico, the birthplace of weirdness and aliens. Moore left home and became a pin-up girl at age 16 before landing a real acting gig at 19. She has battled criticism, gender bias, and even cocaine addiction. Yet, through it all, she has remained one of Hollywood’s most driven and outspoken women.

Moore was a struggling actress long before she was a household name and years before her famous pottery scene with Patrick Swayze in Ghost. She eeked out minor roles in little-known films and TV shows. Moore landed a recurring role in the soap opera General Hospital in 1982. Yet, she would gain a truly impactful role in 1985s St. Elmo’s Fire. Her role in the 80s classic teen drama would have her stealing hearts and catapulting to stardom.

Demi Moore may be more well-known for her movie roles, but she certainly hasn’t stopped there. Her marriage to action movie icon Bruce Willis resulted in three daughters. On the set, she is known for her grit and determination, even in the face of criticism.

Although she’s been acting for 40 years and times have changed, Demi Moore shows no signs of stopping. She frequently has guest appearances and recurring roles in TV shows like the massive hit Empire. She’s also working on new movie projects, animated films, and production work.

Moore has a reputation for doing what she wants and enjoying it, while others mock and criticize her, including her smoking cigars. However, Moore still enjoys cigars and often relishes the opportunity for a good smoke. Celebrities, athletes, and politicians know there’s nothing better than a good cigar. Nothing makes a good cigar better than the good company you keep. Despite popular belief about stuffy cigar lounges, there are many ways to enjoy a good cigar and camaraderie together. Even celebrities understand this and a cigar party.

Cigar parties are more than just about cigars. Although, that is part of it. They are also about the people…the fellowship of great conversations over equally great smokes. The Governator himself made many friends thanks to his regular cigar parties. He also found many kindred spirits among the people he invited. Several of those same friends are now lifelong cigar lovers. The idea is less of a party atmosphere and more of a gathering of like-minded individuals.

Determine the Type of Gathering

Putting together a cigar party doesn’t need to be a big Hollywood affair. Yet, you’ll probably want to plan the correct type of gathering for the people involved. So, first, decide who you’re going to invite.

A cigar party also doesn’t need to be lavish or exclusive. Yet, it’s much more than a celebratory smoke after a promotion at work or the birth of a new grandchild. Instead, it should be a gathering of friends who enjoy cigars in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. Even a new or casual smoker can enjoy a cigar party with the right people involved.

Once you’ve nailed down the guest list, it’s time to pick a date and location. Friday nights after work are perfect for getting together and winding down over a good smoke. The important thing is that it’s convenient for all guests.

Enjoying a fine cigar does not need to be a stressful affair. Relaxing and sharing the latest news and stories with friends is an excellent source of enjoyment for all. Host a cigar party over a game of poker if you want something with a bit more flair or activity. Or, combine it with some premium scotch.

Choose the Right Locale

You don’t have to roll out the red carpet for your cigar party, but you should choose the right room in your house for the gathering. Most times, a den or “man cave” works well. Another option is to set up in the basement and allow everyone to enjoy themselves without worrying about the rest of the house. The dining room will do fine if you’re going for a poker night. The most important thing is that everyone is comfortable with smoking in your home. Eliminate the hassle by choosing a room where everyone can sit in comfort.

Set Up Your Cigar Party

Once you know who, when, and where, you can start to prepare the what. A good host will provide everything a cigar smoker needs to enjoy a smoke. You don’t have to break out the premium hand-rolled Cubans for a cigar party, but having a box of good quality cigars available for your guests will make you a good host. Besides providing cigars, guests will also need cutters, ashtrays, and lighters. Having all the tools of the trade will make the experience much better for everyone involved.

If the gathering runs longer than a couple of hours, it is advisable to provide refreshments. However, you don’t need Gordon Ramsey to cook a meal for your guests. Instead, keep it simple by setting out finger foods or light snacks for everyone to enjoy.

Cocktails are another excellent suggestion. If your gathering is already centered around alcohol, such as Scotch tasting, you’ll already be covered. However, if you don’t have beverages built into the party, provide a bottle or two of everyone’s preferred drink. Alternatively, asking guests to bring something of their preference is acceptable. It’s also OK to invite guests to chip in on the content of the cigar party, especially if you’re making it a regular occurrence.

Themes for a Recurring Cigar Party

If you’re planning on creating a regular cigar party encounter, schedule a theme for each party. Having a theme doesn’t mean having your guests dress in costume and pretend to solve murder mysteries. Simply put, it means picking an agenda for the evening; This might include having everyone try a new brand or flavor of the cigar. Or, you might want to theme a cigar party around comparing a light or mild domestic cigar with a premium heavy cigar.

Still, another option to consider is to create a combination event. Combining poker with cigars is natural and often quite enjoyable, even for a casual smoker; This offers an excellent experience for new cigar smokers. It also helps them become acquainted with the different strengths of cigar flavors. After all, a cigar party is more about inclusion than exclusion.

The atmosphere is the big reason for hosting a cigar party over going to a cigar bar or lounge. Cigar bars and lounges are businesses. Cigar Aficionado: Tom Selleck Loves His Cigars

You know the man, you see the mustache. Still, you might not know that everyone’s favorite private investigator is a fan of a good smoke. Few can claim to be as prevalent as the one-time private investigator turned police commissioner in the long-running series Blue Bloods. Tom Selleck has done what few in Hollywood have managed to do. He has stayed relevant for over four decades and joined the ranks of cigar aficionado that rivals Kurt Russell, Arnold Schwarzenegger, and Al Pacino.

At 75 years old, Tom Selleck continues providing the foundation for television characters we still love and enjoy. Repeats of Magnum P.I. play daily, and his latest, long-running series, Blue Bloods, is nothing less than a massive hit. Add to that some commercial advertisements and other endorsements, and it’s hard not to find Selleck on your television at some point during the day.

Not only has Mr. Selleck remained relevant, but he is also one of the biggest stars on television today with a show that is entering its eleventh season. Despite his age, Selleck continues to portray a hard-line cop with plenty of attitude and wisdom. You almost expect a man of his stature to enjoy a nice cigar after a long, hard day.

The Struggle of the Early Days

Before he was a smooth-talking private investigator and long before he was the wise leader of New York’s police department, Selleck struggled to find work. Throughout the ’70s, he had a hard time landing more than a small role in some one-off T.V. shows. For many years, Selleck failed to land a leading role. He would eventually land small parts in films, but most were forgettable.

Tom Selleck spent most of his time trying out for failed T.V. pilots before landing a recurring role on The Rockford Files; This would be the role that finally got him noticed. Selleck played his titular character first in the show Simon and Simon in the early ’80s. But, unfortunately, that was before Thomas Magnum landed his show.

The Early Days of Magnum

Tom Selleck talked in interviews about the early days of filming Magnum P.I. He spoke of how he envisioned himself living a life of luxury years earlier while in the service. In fact, during the struggle to land Magnum P.I. on the air, Selleck recalled doing odd jobs and handyman work to stay in his Hawaiian beach house until filming resumed. Eventually, filming continued, and Selleck went on to play the character for eight seasons. Much of the Magnum P.I. character came from Selleck’s aspirations of living a carefree lifestyle on the beach in Hawaii.

Even now, when smoking on screen is seen as a bit of faux pas, Selleck has managed to sneak a cigar in on a few shots of Blue Bloods. He still looks as smooth as ever while doing it, too. Whether playing a new father in movies like 3 Men and a Baby or a rugged cop in the Jesse Stone series, Selleck enjoys a good smoke on and off the screen.

When Selleck’s characters don’t smoke, he makes time for a good cigar whenever he gets the chance. Selleck has been a cigar aficionado since he first made it big by solving crimes in Hawaii.

Hollywood Royalty Kurt Russell Enjoys His Cigars

Longevity in Hollywood is a novel idea reserved for a rarefied few. Nevertheless, some actors like Al Pacino, Jack Nicholson, and Sylvester Stallone have managed to be box office staples for decades. Add to that list of long-time screen stars and cigar lovers Kurt Russell. Russell has entered his sixth decade on the big screen and shows no signs of stopping.

The Tarantino Effect

Twenty-five years ago, Quentin Tarantino made Pulp Fiction and reinvigorated the careers of John Travolta and Bruce Willis. It also solidified cigar lover Samuel L. Jackson as one lousy mother! In Tarantino’s recent release, Once Upon A Time in Hollywood, Kurt Russell reunited with Quentin Tarantino. He gave a tour de force performance that garnered more attention than his lead role in Tarantino’s Hateful Eight less than a decade earlier.

In the Beginning, There Was Kurt Russell

Russell’s first movie role at age 12 was kicking Elvis Presley in the shins in It Happened at the World’s Fair. At 13, he played the lead in The Travels of Jaimie McPheeters, his first (in an eventual string of Westerns.) In Escape From L.A., there is a joke that he has no choice but to smoke cigarillos because he can’t find cigarettes. In Tombstone, he deftly lights a cigar while running a poker game. Then, in The Hateful Eight, he enjoys a pipe throughout the movie, despite being chained to a prisoner. Tobacco, in some form, always makes its way on-screen for Russell. He believes that sometimes the cigar, or pipe, is essential to the character. He should know; he’s played over 100 characters!

What Does Kurt Russell Smoke Off Screen?

Russell admits he is not a daily smoker but proudly boasts he has never turned down a cigar. He loves the relaxed time and Zen-like experience that comes with smoking one. The ability to have a civilized conversation in a cushy lounge while enjoying a well-made, mild Cuban cigar is an absolute treat that he relishes.

Where Does Russell Go From Here?

Kurt Russell has been the savior of New York and Los Angeles, a rugged sheriff bringing law and order to Tombstone, a fire captain, Santa Claus, and even a space god. Yet, with a career spanning sixty years and every possible leading man role, he is STILL excited about going to work. He has long been lauded for his tireless work effort, something he got from his father, who said, “Show up and do the work.” Since then, Russell has been doing precisely that for sixty years and is looking forward to his next role, which he hopes will inspire a new action figure for his collection.
